visualise an analog clock on the wall the second hand tickin round
now SEE THE PATH that the TIP of the second hand makes
start with the circular motion around the face
realise that the wall the clock is attached to
is on a planet rotating on an axis
the circle around the face now seems more like a cyclical spring shape
taking account of the earths orbit then adds another level and so on
